The month of February was fruitful as PD
SEA Mobilization Team members met the United Methodist Church District
Superintendent, Rev. Nerissa Palafox of San Mateo, Isabela
together with her husband, Rev. Benny Palafox at Santiago, Isabela.
During the meeting, Rev. Palafox set a 40 DOP orientation during
the UMC annual conference that covers the whole Isabela Province
consisting of four districts. She agreed to coordinate with other
district superintendents in Mercedes, Ilagan, and Echague,
Isabela. About 120 churches under these districts will send a
church pastor and a church elder.
The Province of Isabela is one of the
biggest provinces in the northern part of Manila. Most churches in the
province are under the United Methodist conference. While Methodist
churches in the Philippines remain traditional, most of these churches
are starting to open up to the Purpose Driven paradigm. In fact, the
Tarlac UMC under Pastor Jose Padang have shown the way and has become a
model through his innovative approach in implementing the 40 DOP. From
207 members, three worshipping congregations, and 20 small groups, the
church grew to 586 worshippers, 14 worshipping congregations and 60
small groups. It was an amazing growth considering the small size of
Tarlac City in northern Manila.
